The category A2 driving licence permits you to drive motorcycles without a sidecar, with a a maximum engine power of 35 kW. The power/weight ratio of the motorbike must not exceed 0.2kW/kg.This driving licence is designed to permit you to get your small motorcycle driving licence early and then progress to the A2 licence with more engine power.
Motorcycles and scooters
Driving license category A2 is the second level of a motorcycle driver's licence. It permits the use of small motorcycles (up to 50cc) and mopeds with a maximum capacity of 125cc. This class permits you to gradually increase the horsepower of your vehicle and imagine larger engines. The test is more difficult and Prawo Jazdy Am requires more theory.
The category A2 driving licence is valid until you reach the age of 24. It may be used with a car driving licence category A1 or as a part of a provisional category B driver's license. If you are older than 24 years old, you must have a full category A driving licence to operate motorcycles that have more than 35 kW.
You can obtain an A1 group driving license at the age of 16 (in Denmark and Malta, 15 and in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia 14). Once you're over 16 years old, you will need to pass the motorbike test in category A2. You must pass the test before you turn 18. Then, after two years, you are able to move to category A.
After passing the test for category A2, you will be allowed to drive a motorcycle, with or without sidecar, and vehicles with up to 35 kW of power. The vehicles must also have a weight/power ratio of no greater than 0.2 kW/kg and cannot be built from a vehicle that has twice the maximum power.
If you have completed a two-part moped test or lower category motorcycle test from the 1st of July 1996, then you are eligible to skip the theory test and take the practical test. You can ride a smaller moped or scooter with L plates, or take the new AM licence, which will enable you to ride 50cc motorcycles with a top speed of 45mph. The AM licence is only valid if you've passed your theory test and attended nine hours of instruction divided into practical and theory lessons at driving schools.
Vehicles with four wheels
This category covers all motorized vehicles with four wheels, except for buses and passenger cars. This category includes utility vehicles, such as pickups vans, panels and pickups. Also included are motor homes, campers and lorries. This category could also include vehicles such as hearses, ambulances and carryalls that are designed to accommodate more than eight persons or have a maximum permissible mass of 500 kg. If you hold a driving licence in category A2, you are able to ride a tricycle as long as it has the capacity of 125cc, and an output power of 11kW. This category was formerly part of the A license. All drivers who obtained an A category licence before 19th January 2013 were able to ride mopeds and retain that right.
Motor vehicles with five or more wheels
This category includes vehicles powered by electricity that are designed for use on the road, and for the transport of passengers or goods. They must have at minimum two or three wheels in contact with the ground, a seat or saddle for the driver and passengers, and an engine that can produce speeds of 20 miles per hour or more. These vehicles are equipped with brakes and a steering wheel. They are also able to be controlled in a normal direction and can travel in reverse. In some instances these vehicles are equipped with an hood or some other cover that can be opened. Motor vehicles with trailers
The A2 category includes motorized vehicles with trailers. These are not vehicles driven by drivers, but are pulled by larger vehicles such as cars. This category includes, for example, a tractor towing trailers, or smaller trucks that are designed to carry loads, such as those used by plumbers or painters to transport tools and supplies to the site of work. The maximum mass that can be authorized (MAM) for this category is 8,250kg.

The license you get for Category A2 is valid for three years at the time you pass your theory test. To keep it valid, you must renew prior to the expiration date.
You can also obtain an operating license for other vehicles with special requirements. You need a special licence to drive a big vehicle (category C) that requires you to know the regulations for transporting dangerous items.
