New Film “Hazard” Takes an Unflinching Look at Addiction and Family Struggles Amid the Opioid Epidemic

The powerful indie drama “Hazard” premieres in theaters on January 10, 2025, initially opening in 40 theaters across opioid-impacted areas, including locations in Appalachia, the UK, Kenya, and New Zealand, before expanding nationwide and internationally.

Directed by Eddie Mensore and starring Alex Roe and Sosie Bacon, "Hazard" tells the story of a struggling couple ensnared in a town gripped by addiction and economic hardship. Will (Roe), a reluctant drug dealer, faces the difficult choice of leaving Hazard to break free from the cycle of addiction. He urges his partner, Sara (Bacon), to start fresh with him, leading to a poignant exploration of addiction, love, and resilience.

More than just a story, "Hazard" aims to foster awareness and compassion, encouraging viewers to confront the harsh realities of addiction and its impact on individuals and families. In partnership with community organizations, the release will emphasize themes of healing, resilience, and recovery, underscoring the importance of understanding and

empathy. This mission aligns with the film's commitment to highlighting the struggles and triumphs of those affected by the opioid crisis, inspiring meaningful action toward a healthier, hopeful future.

Following its premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival on October 18, and featuring a soundtrack from sonaBLAST! Records, “Hazard” is already generating buzz for its emotional performances and social impact. Alex Roe (The 5th Wave, Forever My Girl), Sosie Bacon (Smile, Narcos: Mexico), Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead, Westworld), and Dave Davis (True Detective, The Vigil) deliver powerful performances in a film that seeks to both entertain and engage audiences in a vital conversation about addiction and recovery.

Mensore’s commitment to exploring urgent issues through compelling narratives was evident in the success of his previous film, “Mine 9". Centered on Appalachian miners trapped in a collapsed coal mine, the film established him as a director dedicated to shedding light on the overlooked stories of rural America.
